If there is a few words to describe me, it would be calm, shy, and, smart.
I learned from past experience that being calm is much better for my health then rushing into problems such as hiking and biking. I spend long days either hiking in some Iowa trails or biking in the many trails that criss cross the city.
There can feelings of weariness towards strange people and will prefer to be silent then to act like I know what I am doing. Drawing allows me to be shy and yet to express myself happily.
Once when I was younger, a good student, was non existent for me. That changed when age and change of schools happened. Now, I am smart in both brains and sense. I learned both from my previous school which my father says taught me common sense, something my sister does not seem to learn in school.
That is the summery of me, my hobbies, and my education.

Do any person on any day think about perspective of different cultures? The plight of second generation immigrants who assimilate into the culture of the country that became their home.
I grew up in two different cultures which one is more predominate then the other.
My mother is from Asia with different culture, etiquette rules, and stereotypes. All Caucasians are consider rich and are expected to give generous tips. While I can understand the reasons that the little rules of tipping and the roles of gender, I can never be a part of that culture that is my mother.
My fathers culture is the one that is myself because I have always lived here. Other then a vacation or two, I have never lived outside of the US. My mother often have conflicts with me because I American and she is Asian- American. Often I desire to be more like my mother in culture but then I realize that I can not change who I am and to try to compromise my culture to my mother’s. I am an individual and I am proud to be mixed. Re-read and check for simple grammar errors, I found a few small errors but nothing too distracting. Good use of diction and syntax. Reflection #1 (posted February 20 -- Peer Response February 22)
The setting of the definitions and the use of the comparisons to my own experiences contrast help set the stage for me to set the essay. My personal experience put great insight into the view of contrasting culture.
Improvements could be made by my flow and diction of the paper. The flow is choppy in some spots and smooth in others, Weak verbs can be a problem but are under my watch.
What a contrast of culture to society!
As observed by scientist of many nations, it often debated if society came first or if culture arise first. But regardless of what came first, the differences between the two blur the lines of which is which. Many people will not hesitate to blame society for a problems or vice versa for culture when it comes to issues or rights or inequalities but both are different.
Culture‘s influence plays a role in shaping the formation of social traits. Without culture there would be not societies or institutions. While without societies, there would be no long lasting culture. Both terms define customs, institutions, and morals of a group of people living within proximity of each other. The similarities between the two terms leads to misconceptions of both being the same with is far for, the truth.
With a flick of a sudden change of an individual or a group, societies and beliefs can change. The strands of culture such as modesty, gender roles, and shared morals form from times of practice which usually happens in shared communities. A group of unrelated people by both blood and culture can form a new community. That community may not have become a new culture for the could disband and never have a lasting impact on the individual’s themselves who may forgo that little culture that formed.
A community exclusively focus on the people aspect of culture which many people live and interact with one another in a common culture norm. By Oxford Dictionary of English; culture encompass many subtle traits including beliefs, institutions, and customs. But a society or a community defines as a group of people of similar traits living together. While culture in what defines a society, a society does not define a culture.
The differences of culture and society is that while cultural is broad and encompass many subjects and ideas. Society focus on the humans living together with culture being a strong anchor for the people living with in it. Culture is the basis of life but can only be changed by changing society.

Reflection #2 (posted March 16 -- Peer Response March 25)
My essays at times lack flow and suffice connectors. While it had many subjects, it can lack evidence. But the overall ideas remain the same for the purpose of the essay. It is disappointing that many errors are common from grammar, syntax, to style of writing. I am pleased that I was able to complete the paper without the struggle of picking a topic and organizing the paper. While normally, it takes much effort for me to select the topic and the choice of order for the paper. It exceeds what I hope to have written but is below the expectations I should have set for myself.
Rough Draft Argument (posted April 6 -- Peer Response April 8)
Diversity: Leading to Survival or Starting Conflict
Anything alive in this world can and will attack anything strange and humans are not exception, even when it with other humans form other parts of the globe. Change exceeds even the oldest rock or the youngest flower which both can be broken to pieces or become something new and different. To embrace it is far better then to fight it until the tides of change force change that which the fighters end with losing.
Darwin’s theory of revolution sparked the start of new thought. Thoughts that contradict the ideology of established cultures. Those cultures practiced narrow minded support of a superior people or justify changing the lives of other that are different from them. Darwin advocated that diversity allow for survival. If an illness were to strike one group but not affect the other because of biological or social differences, the race as a whole will continue. It is true of culture. Different culture puts different value in people’s lives. If being of one group harms the individuals then being in another insure that there will be another day. Many information, ideas, lives can be lost if one culture is eradicated yet so long as there is a person alive, the race as a whole will continue.
Each different culture process a different approach to adapting in the particular environment. Europeans survived by raising animals and growing their own food. Unfortunately it also exposed them to numerous disease and filth. On the other side of the world, Native Central Americans depended on forging, hunting, and large assortment of plants; both grown and harvested. They receive less exposure to disease which promote surviving to adulthood. Yet both cultures found success in the path of it’s lifestyle which suites the geography, ecosystem, and technological lifestyle.
Since the beginning of culture, people believe that it is better to be of one culture for a variety of reasons. In the past, different cultures fought each other because they do not know anything of their enemy who could be their friend. The ‘quick’ solution suggest to incorporate all the cultures as one culture even if it means to destroy a part of the subservient culture. Sometimes progressing until one culture is eradicated. Of the ways to integrate culture, the least destructive is to combine into one culture but allow the strands of the reactant culture to linger which give an identify and still give diversity.
Humans as an animal seek to survive to the fitness and that include stopping any changes that might harm the person which includes other humans of different culture which leads to conflict. Conflict with change comes and goes such as a river ebbs and flow. Changes come and go and each change bring new possibilities that should be embrace and not fought. A lesson people have yet to learn.

My skills improved from previous papers and writings to the point that I coherently use a smooth flow and consistent syntax. While my common grammar errors keep occurring, it is fixable and doable. My argument credible because it incorporates many facts, and sources, It has reason and a counterclaim, although weak. That is the overall summery. But it still have much negatives and positives.

My family is of two different cultures of two different places. While my experience had broaden my knowledge of life here and everywhere in the world, it also lead me to personal conflicts with who I am as a person such as choice of diet and lifestyle, like when I sometimes say ,“Ewww… that gross”, as a common statement of odd foods and practices that belongs to my mother‘s former lifestyle. An example would be my mother’s fondness for Balut, which happens when cooking a partially developed duck fetus -- and eating involves cracking the shell and drinking the liquid goo of then the un-hatched duck (the duck shows to be a interesting color of yellow). For the Westerner, the meal is repulsive, but there, it a common choice of nourishment.
My father’s culture is the one I am raised with and I am personally affiliated with his Anglo-Irish culture. During my short visit to the Philippines, my own culture was alien and strange to my relatives. While I did not talk as much as all of my relatives, when I opened my mouth anything that came out saturated with arrogance and excessive confidence in my intelligent. They regarded me with strange wonder at the, ‘meztiza’, the light skinned Filipina Americana.
While possessing unity and diversity gains many benefits, it can also lead to conflicts due to cultural differences or because of misunderstanding of certain behaviors or norms. There is much conflict between me and my mother because I am moral and she is a survivalist; I am emotion and she is common sense; I am private and she is open- hearted. I often desire to be more like my mother in culture but then I realize that I can not change who I am, and when I try to compromise my culture to my mother’s.

Reflection #3 (posted April 23)
My skills improved from previous papers and writings to the point that I coherently use a smooth flow and consistent syntax. While my common grammar errors keep occurring, it is fixable and doable. My argument credible because it incorporates many facts, and sources, It has reason and a counterclaim, although weak. That is the overall summery. But it still have much negatives and positives.
